Breaking In An Angel

FALL 1999

Red Animal War was born in an old clinic - turned - practice space in Grand Prarie, Texas. The mentality was to practice until it hurt, and the band did just that. No shows were played this year and nothing was recorded. The band consisted of four guys - Justin, Jamie, Matt, and Jeff. SPRING 1999

At the beginning of the year, the band went into the studio to record 3 songs. Darrell LaCour recorded the band live at Deedle's Room Recording in Arlington, TX. This demo was sent out to a small number of independent labels and caught the ear of Deep Elm's John Szuch. Szuch wanted to put the song "Backbreaker" on the next installment of the Emo Diaries Compilations, so the band agreed and a friendship was made. In March, the band played it's first show at the now defunct Zombie's in Arlington, TX, and hasn't looked back since.

WINTER 1999

By this time the band felt it was time to put out a collection of music of their own, so another trip to the studio was made. A local label by the name of Texas offered to release the band's first EP. 6 songs were recorded, but soon Texas folded and the band was without a label. The music was sent out to other labels and once again, Deep Elm Records was interested. A handshake deal was made to record 6 more songs so that a 12 song full-length could be released the next fall. SUMMER 2000

Studio time was again booked at Deedle's Room. Due to time contraints, Jaime left the band. Brian Pho, on old friend and long-time fan of the band, took up bass duties and the band recorded the 6 new songs. It was at this time that One Ton Records asked Red Animal War to appear on the first installment of the Buzz Oven compilations. The band put 2 songs on the comp and it was distributed for free around the region.

FALL 2000

It was decided that the 12 song full-length was going to include only 11 of the songs so that a tune could go on an "unreleased" compilation from Deep Elm. The full-length had a tentative November release date, but conflicts with the artwork pushed the release into the next year.

SPRING 2001

For the fourth time in it's career, the band ventured into Deedle's Room to record 2 brand new songs. These songs were recorded quickly and without any afterthoughts, and have been the most accurate representation of the band to date. One of the songs is to appear on a split 7-inch with good friends Sand Which Is, and the other is to appear on 2 different comps; one from Clandestine Records and one from Ignition Records (UK).

So, the full-length record is here and it's called "Breaking in an Angel". The band wants to thank everyone who's had a hand in helping out and to anyone who's waited patiently.
